Cellulose fiber network as reinforcement of thermoplastic paraffin films

The incorporation of natural fibers into polymer matrices poses challenges due to physicochemical incompatibility, which is typically addressed through precursor modification or the use compatibilizers. Here, we introduce a novel type composite that overcomes this challenge by utilizing network fine, porous cellulosic sheets inter-diffused with commercial paraffin films. This approach physically adheres fiber matrix, preserving its structure. Microscopy images confirm formation proposed microstructure, and mechanical testing reveals gradual increase in modulus strength cellulose. maximum achieved was 7.6% (w/w) fibers, resulting 167% (1.67 times improved) stiffness. Moreover, these composites exhibit ductility, an average deformation 410 ± 38%, corresponding 20% reduction relation pure matrix. Our findings demonstrate potential for developing sustainable materials improved properties.
